Building something special and lasting together for a community takes time. It also takes a fully committed team to get the job done on and off of the field. We know this first-hand as Baldwin General Contracting’s sister company, Standard Commercial Construction, and Varitone Architect have stepped up to the plate to renovate a former warehouse into the future home of the C&C Bat Factory in Albany, Oregon.

The idea to build a modern batting cage facility for local baseball and softball players to train and develop has been a dream that’s steadily coming to life for both Chris Reese and Carlos Carapinha. For the past six years, Chris has worked as the Chief Executive Officer at the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA in Albany while Carlos serves as the President of the Oregon Titans youth fastpitch softball organization and under-18 team coach in addition to his role as a Service Manager at Roberson Albany Ford. Together, their shared passion for baseball, softball, coaching, and creating a sense of community around the game has grown into a complete remodel and passion project.

The exterior renovations are underway, the framing is completed, and the windows are up next before moving forward with the interior refurbishments. Add to that the tremendous support Chris and Carlos have received from the community at large and it looks like this project will be a grand slam in opening the C&C Bat Factory.

“It’s an opportunity for us to give back to our community, provide a valuable service, and simply watch kids grow and have fun,” Carlos said when asked what building the C&C Bat Factory means to him.

Recently, Chris and Carlos shared their thoughts about how the batting cage project came together, the importance of providing opportunities for the next generation of local ballplayers, and their experiences in working closely with Baldwin to renovate and create the C&C Bat Factory.
